Special Olympics Northern California
Item-Marking Policy

Revised

9-24-2024

The following policy will apply to any Special Olympics Northern California (SONorCal) program for items that it may want to procure outside of those provided through the annual budgeting process. This policy applies to items with the Special Olympics logo and Special Olympics Northern California name, including t-shirts, jackets, hats, pins, etc.

  1. Programs, volunteers, family members or anyone producing items for the program must use the official Special Olympics Northern California logo correctly and receive approval of the local SONorCal office and staff.
  2. Items must be purchased via privately-donated funds and can not be raised using the SONorCal or Special Olympics name. Funds raised for these items are not tax-deductible as they are not given to SONorCal, a registered 501(c)(3) organization.
  3. Items CANNOT be used as part of the competition uniform. However, they may be worn for opening ceremonies.
  4. Items CANNOT have sponsor logos or marks on them if the SONorCal or Special Olympics logo is also included.
  5. Items MUST be for the entire delegation/team, as opposed to only for certain individuals.
  6. Donated items which are approved by SONorCal Staff to be used as uniforms at an official competition MUST follow SONorCal uniform guidelines for the respective sport and will become property of SONorCal.
